Privacy policy — effective 11 August 2026
We don’t know who you are, and we’ve gone out of our way to keep it that way.
This site is plain HTML on a static host. There is no analytics, no tracking pixel, no advertising network, no A/B test, and no account to create. This policy is short because there is genuinely very little to disclose — and everything below is a description of how the site is actually built, which you can verify by opening the page source or your browser’s network tab.
The short version
We collect no personal data about visitors. The three checkers run entirely inside your browser and send your answers nowhere. Nothing is stored on your device except a single theme preference. If you choose to join the update list, your email goes to our newsletter provider and is used for nothing but the notices described below. Some product links are affiliate links, which set cookies on the retailer’s site after you click — never on ours.
What we collect about visitors
Nothing. No analytics or measurement service of any kind runs on this site — no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no Fathom, no Meta or advertising pixels, no session recording, no heatmaps. We do not build profiles, we do not fingerprint browsers, and we have no way to tell one visitor from another or to know that you visited at all.
There are no third-party fonts, scripts, or embeds. Typefaces are self-hosted on our own domain, so loading a page here doesn’t quietly announce your visit to anyone else. Every page on this site loads only files served from perfectlygoodpc.com.
Cookies and local storage
This site sets no cookies. It uses one item of browser local storage:

That value never leaves your device and contains no identifier — it is literally the word light or dark.
The checkers and tools
The path finder, the ESU eligibility checker and the Linux hardware checker ask you questions about your computer and your circumstances. Your answers never leave your browser. All three tools are JavaScript files that run on your device; the decision logic and every possible result are already in the page you downloaded. There is no server to send answers to — this is a static site with no backend, no database and no form endpoint on our side.
Nothing is saved between visits. Reload the page and the tool starts fresh. We never see your answers, cannot reconstruct them, and hold no record that you used a tool at all. There is deliberately no email gate on any tool: you get your result without giving us anything.
The update list
Some pages offer an optional email signup for one purpose: telling you if the Windows 10 dates move again, or if something in our guides stops being true. If you use it:
- Your email address is submitted directly to Buttondown, our newsletter provider, which stores it and sends the messages on our behalf. Their handling of it is covered by the Buttondown privacy policy.
- We ask for an email address and nothing else. No name, no country, no “which of these products interest you”.
- We use it only for date changes and guide corrections. We do not send digests, product promotions, sponsored messages, or anything from anyone else.
- We never sell, rent, share or trade the list. It is not fed to advertisers, data brokers, or partners.
- Every email has a one-click unsubscribe. Unsubscribing removes you from the list; ask us and we’ll delete the record entirely.
If no signup form appears on a page you’re reading, the list simply isn’t running yet — the forms stay hidden until they’re wired up, because an unwired signup box is a small lie.
Affiliate links
A few pages link to hardware — an SSD, a RAM upgrade, a USB-to-SATA adapter, an air-mouse remote, a streamer stick. Those are affiliate links, marked as such on the page where they appear. If you buy after clicking one, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We are a participant in retailer affiliate programs including the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.
What matters for your privacy is the handoff: clicking an affiliate link takes you to the retailer, and the retailer sets its own cookies to attribute the sale. That is their tracking, on their site, under their privacy policy — but it is a real consequence of clicking, and you deserve to know it before you do. We receive only anonymous, aggregate commission reports: how many items sold and the fee earned. Retailers never tell us who you are, and we have no way to connect a purchase to a visitor.
We do not run display advertising anywhere on this site. Recommendations are based on the research behind the guides, not on commission rates — which is why our advice is frequently to buy nothing at all.
Server logs
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like every web server on earth, their infrastructure processes the technical information needed to deliver a page to you — IP address, browser user-agent, the file requested — and uses it for security and abuse prevention. We do not have access to visitor-level logs, do not export or analyze them, and do not combine them with anything else. Cloudflare’s handling is described in the Cloudflare privacy policy.
Children
This site is written for adults deciding what to do with their computers. It is not directed at children, and we knowingly collect no information from anyone, of any age.
Your rights
If you are in the UK, EEA, California, or anywhere with similar law, you have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, and to object to its processing. For visitors who never join the update list, these rights have nothing to attach to: we hold no personal data about you at all. If you are on the update list, your email is the only personal data we hold — write to us and we’ll show you what’s there or delete it, promptly and without asking why. We will never make you argue for it, and we don’t discriminate against anyone who exercises these rights.
Since we run no advertising trackers and share nothing with advertisers, there is no sale or sharing of personal information to opt out of under the CCPA/CPRA.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially — if we ever add analytics, advertising, or any new way of collecting data — we’ll update this page and change the effective date at the top before it takes effect, and say so in the update list. We’d rather announce a change loudly than let one happen quietly.
